Intravenous hydrogen peroxide is used to treat infections. The use of hydrogen peroxide as a therapy is called bio-oxidative medicine. This therapy involves the addition of oxygen directly to the tissues of the body in the form of singlet oxygen or lone oxygen atoms in a highly reactive state. This additional oxygen is toxic to germs and therefore destroys them. The body's living cells can handle the extra oxygen without harm.
In bio-oxidative medicine, oxygen is introduced directly into the body as hydrogen peroxide (H202). The chemical reaction looks like this: H202 ->H20 + 0- . This is the chemical shorthand to indicate that in the body, hydrogen peroxide is converted to water and singlet oxygen. The singlet oxygen is a powerful oxidizing agent and is the active agent in the hydrogen peroxide therapy. In the intravenous treatment, 2.5cc of 3% hydrogen peroxide are put into 500cc of 5% glucose/water solution in addition to other vitamins and minerals. In the blood, hydrogen peroxide encounters two enzymes: catalase and cytochrome-C. Catalase drives the above reaction to completion immediately. The part of the hydrogen peroxide that binds to the cytochrome-C, however, is not allowed to become water and singlet oxygen for a period of 45 minutes. After 45 minutes of being bound to the cytochrome-C, the cytochrome-C begins to act like catalase and breaks down the hydrogen peroxide to water and singlet oxygen. By this time the hydrogen peroxide/cytochrome-C complex has been spread throughout the body. In this way the benefits of hydrogen peroxide are made available to all cells in the body.
Singlet oxygen kills or severely inhibits the growth of anaerobic organisms (bacteria and viruses that use carbon dioxide for fuel and leave oxygen as a by-product). This action is immediate on contact with the anaerobic organism. Anaerobic bacteria are pathogens which means they cause disease. Aerobic bacteria which burn oxygen for fuel and leave carbon dioxide as a by-product are found in the human intestinal track and are friendly bacteria. They are supportive to the body’s metabolism and thrive in the presence of oxygen. All viruses are anaerobic.
The second effect of the hydrogen peroxide is that it provides singlet oxygen, which transforms biological waste products and industrial toxins into inert substances by oxidizing them. This makes it easier for the kidneys and liver to handle them. It doubles the rate of enzymatic metabolism in the cell, thus enabling the body to cleanse itself of toxins while still having the energy to handle the moment-by-moment requirements of daily living. This increase in metabolism probably accounts for some of the antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral effects of hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide is a part of normal cell metabolism. Your body's immune system produces it constantly. Certain white blood cells produce hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria and viruses.
Conditions which can be treated with hydrogen peroxide include those conditions that can be treated with antibiotics. Some of the conditions include candidiasis, viral infections, influenza, the common cold, sinus infection, Epstein-Barr virus, Lyme disease and gangrene. Hydrogen peroxide has also been found to help treat atherosclerosis and other vascular disorders. Research in the 1960’s at Baylor University showed conclusively that intra-arterial hydrogen peroxide dissolves plaque in large arteries. It has also been found to support lung disorders. In the case of emphysema, it clears the lungs by producing oxygen bubbles in the alveoli (the tiny air sacs in the lungs) helping to lift up the mucous deposits so they can be coughed out. (The client should be well hydrated if this is the goal of treatment.)
Some doctors believe that AIDS and cancer can be helped with hydrogen peroxide. The theory which explains the benefits enjoyed by people with these conditions is that the cancer cell and the AIDS virus are both anaerobic and do not do well when exposed to singlet oxygen. More research needs to be done in this area. Claims of cure should not be made unless they can be rigorously substantiated with cause and effect proven beyond any reasonable doubt. But at the present time, it appears that oxidative therapies can be valuable in arresting the disease processes, but they may not necessarily be curative.
The infusion lasts 2 hours. You may notice a warm feeling during the treatment. Often you feel slightly worse during the first 5 treatments as the organisms are being killed off. Usually after the 6th to 10th treatment, you start to feel better. Treatments are one to two times per week. Ten to 20 treatments will usually get the job done. Those with many chronic infections may need up to 50 treatments. You should be able to maintain your health with supplements and/or the occasional intravenous infusion after that.
